1. Listen to both sides of every story.
2. Praise in public, chew in private.
3. Decentralize.
4. Never give an order you can't enforce.
5. Keep the troops informed — but don't take votes.
6. Be as loyal to your troops as you expect them to be to you.
7. Admit your mistakes; never try to cover up.
8. Relieve a man from his position only as a last resort.
9. Never punish an entire unit for the transgressions of an unknown few . . .
10. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
