SOKOLOVSKIJ : Soviet military strategy (fülszöveg)

This English-language translation of Soviet Military Strategy, Third Edition, with analysis, commentary, and comparison with earlier editions, provides the most descriptive work available on Soviet military thought. The original Russian version was nominated for the Frunze Prize, an annual award for the best writing on military theory or military history.

The author, the late V. D. Sokolovskiy, was a Marshal of the Soviet Union and Chief of the Soviet Armed Forces General Staff. Other contributors include General Major Cherednichenko of the General Staff Academy, General Lieutenant I. G. Zavyalov, General Major I. V. Parot'kin of the Soviet Institute of Military History, and Colonel V. V. Larionov, leading Soviet writer on military doctrine and strategy.

Translation, commentary, analysis and comparison with previous editions was done by Harriet Fast Scott of the Strategic Studies Center of Stanford Research Institute.

Each chapter is preceded by a commentary by the American editor. She identifies all changes made between the first and second editions, and between the second and third editions. In addition, she comments on the continuity of certain Soviet strategic considerations and the significance of this continuity. Thus, in this single volume, complete with analysis and commentary, are all three editions of Soviet Military Strategy.
