The increasing complexity of our civilization requires us to use technologies which in many cases did not exist until recently. The profession of arms has undergone similar development, making it difficult for military personnel to utilize the vast stores of technical information now available. For maximum efficiency, today's military leader must make the best possible use of all the skills of his profession, and this volume is designed to aid him in his many tasks.
I am grateful someone has recognized that the Army's junior leaders need documented help to perform their many additional duties. We have book and film libraries full of instructional material on the servicing of a rifle or a missile, but a paucity of guidance on how to be a Motor Officer, CBR Officer, Mess Officer, or the numerous other additional duties treated in this volume.
I commend to each of you that an acquaintance with these subjects is vital to your success as a manager of resources and leader of men.
