Society, the country and the soldier are inseparable notions just as you recognise the real soldier – even in peacetime by his loyalty, commitment and dedication to the country. I am convinced that you, holding this small book in your hands and reading through the 53 years of our brigade and its legal predecessors' history, learning about the tough years of our soldiers, will agree with the previous sentence.
More than a half century in the service of the country is not a long period in the life of a military unit, but as a result of permanent restructuring and frequent downsizing tailored to the day and the public expectations it is exemplary. Similarly exemplary are the soldiers themselves with their dedication, commitment, with the need for new challenges and revivals that has characterised them, that has given strength in their everyday struggles. In this permanent "fight" they do their job with dedication and they realise the beauty and the demand for their service. They are aware, what they do day after day does not yield profit but security for the country and the people. They are aware since they are the ones who have seen the desperate eyes of the people and not just during fighting floods and snow.......
That is why they work, study and go to conversion training, move with their families, and try to restart their lives – amongst difficulties – since in their oath they declared: "....will protect it, if need be, even if it costs my life!" There are several oaths and declarations in our country but only a few has the above words.
The historical essays and memoirs in this book do not provide the full picture just an insight into our unit's life. Reading them, you will learn about the Brigade's past and present, and track the changes and the achievements.
Dear Reader,
I hope that this book, edited by my colleagues, will give you a lot of new, interesting and useful information, and will depict the truth about the brigade, our predecessors, as well as the soldiers of the day. I request my soldiers – while paying tribute to those, who stood their ground in the last 53 years – to work and serve their country by the brigade's motto – HONOUR, COURAGE, COMMITMENT.
