MacCLOSKEY : Your future in the military services (előszó)
Under the present all-volunteer concept the Military Services' need for well-trained, educated, and dedicated young men and women is more vital now than ever before. In this highly technical and competitive period we have achieved goals that only a short time ago would have seemed pure fantasy. Few careers offer such varied experience, excitement, pride, and deep gratification as that of being in the U.S. Military Services.
The purpose of this book is to present in one volume information pertaining to the Military Services that will be helpful to the young man or woman who is considering a service career. It is divided into four parts, one part being devoted to each service: Army, Navy and Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Each part includes information pertaining to the mission, organization, officer procurement programs, Service Academy, and education and career programs for officers and enlisted personnel, male and female, in that service. Service career benefits are described in the final chapter in the book. The Appendices contain current pay tables and allowances.
I wish to thank here the many Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard people who have, through the generous provision of reference materials and advice, helped me with the preparation of this book. In this regard, special thanks are due the personnel in the recruiting offices and information offices of the five services for their help and patience in answering my many queries. No book of this nature could be written without their invaluable assistance—for which I am extremely grateful.
