Szentes egy olyan város, ahol a civil társadalom és a Magyar Honvédség katonáinak együttélése immár nyolcadik évtizede szolgálja honvédelmünk ügyét. Katonáink nemcsak a szigorúan vett honvédségi feladatokban, hanem kilépve a laktanya falai közül, a Szentesen élők érdekében megvalósult társadalmi és kulturális programokban is részt vállalnak. Ma már szerves, elválaszthatatlan részét képezik a város életének, történelmi és kulturális hagyományainak.

Számunkra, katonák számára rendkívüli jelentőséggel bír a történelmi hagyományok tisztelete. Ezen hagyományokban gyökereznek a mindennapjainkat meghatározó értékek, amelyek ismeretében valósulhat meg a hivatásának élő ember életpályája.

A hagyománytisztelet, történelmi személyiségeink tettei, a csapatzászló jelképe és a haza védelmének magasztos eszméjébe vetett hitünk jelenik meg a szentesi laktanya és a katonai szervezet elnevezéseiben. Rákóczi és Damjanich cselekedeteinek példája méltán képviseli mindezen értékeket es ruház nagy felelősséget azokra, akik e nevek égisze alatt akarnak megfelelni a kihívásoknak.

A katonai szervezet a kiemelkedően fontos műszaki szakterület képviseletét is ellátja, a honvédelmi feladatokban való részvétel, a szövetségi kötelezettségeink teljesítése és a katasztrófahelyzetek kezelése mellett.

A kiadvány színvonalasan illusztrálva mutatja be a város életében jelen lévő gazdag katonai hagyományokat, továbbá a civil lakosság és a katonák együttmű ködésének eredményeit, ezáltal a honvédelem feladatának össztársadalmi ügyét.

Szentes is a town where the coexistence of civilian society and the soldiers of the Hungarian Defense Forces has been serving the cause of homeland defense for eight decades now. Our soldiers not only participate in the tasks of the Hungarian Defense Forces proper, but also step outside the walls of the barracks to take part in social and cultural programs implemented in the interest of the Szentes people. Today, they form an integral and inseparable part of the life of the town, its historical and cultural traditions.

For us, soldiers, the respect for historical traditions has extraordinary significance. Rooted in these traditions are the values imbuing our everyday life, whose knowledge enables the ones living for their vocation to pursue their career paths.

Respect for traditions, the deeds performed by our historic figures, the unit colors as a symbol and our faith in the high ideal of homeland defense all appear in the designations of the Szentes barracks and the military organization. The example of Rákóczi's and Damjanich's deeds deservedly represents all these values and places great responsibility on those who want to meet the challenges under the aegis of these names.

Besides participating in homeland defense tasks, fulfilling obligations in the Alliance and managing disaster situations, the military organization also represents the key branch of military engineering.

This superbly illustrated publication introduces the rich military traditions present in the life of the town as well as the results of cooperation between the civilian population and the soldiers, and through them, the all-national cause of the homeland defence mission.
