RICH : King Philip's war (ajánló)

For some years before 1676, the Indians of the New England region had been feeling the expanding power and presence of the English colonists. Until the death of Massasoit in 1660, that Wampanoag chieftain had managed to maintain friendly relations between the two groups; but after the succession of his son Metacomet, or King Philip, in 1662, the Wampanoags nursed an increasingly hostile attitude toward the white men. In 1675, after a series of aggravations, the Indians finally attacked. Various colonial towns were either wholly or partly destroyed and the war went on until August, 1676, when Philip was finally killed. The results of the conflict were disastrous for everyone concerned and almost fatal for the Indians, who never again regained their strength.
