This study offers novel perspectives and insights into the NATO crisis triggered by French moves in the 1960s. Drawing on newly available sources from the NATO archives and a wealth of national and personal archives in North America and Europe, it reveals the integrative role of previously neglected players, such as small allies and institutional actors.
