SUMMERS, Harry G. : Korean War almanac (fülszöveg)

The Korean War (1950–1953), in which more than 54,000 Americans lost their lives, was a pivotal event in East-West relations and had a major impact upon the Cold War. Over the past several years a number of reexaminations of the war have been published, testifying to the renewal of popular interest in both the political and military aspects of America's "forgotten war." Indeed, the level of interest in the conflict is greater now than at any time since the 1950s.

The KOREAN WAR ALMANAC, written by renowned military strategist Harry G. Summers Jr., presents a wide range of objective information on all aspects of the conflict. Painstakingly researched and designed for easy access, the book takes into account all perspectives, and provides the reader with the facts necessary to form his or her own conclusions.

The ALMANAC consists of three sections:

Part I contains an overview of the war's major phases and important background information on the history and geography of Korea.
Part II is a detailed chronology of events.
Part III, the heart of the book, contains some 375 articles, organized alphabetically, on the people, battles, weapons, military units and key concepts of the war.

Many of these articles include cross references and suggestions for further reading.

Other features include some 10 maps, an excellent bibliography and 100 photographs.

Col. Harry G. Summers Jr. is currently a syndicated columnist for the Los Angeles Times and editor of Vietnam magazine. He is the author of two other books, the highly acclaimed VIETNAM WAR ALMANAC, also published by Facts On File, and a classic study of why we failed in Vietnam, ON STRATEGY. A decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, Summers was formerly senior military correspondent for US News and World Report.
