Representatives from ETS, Sylvan Learning Systems, and CITO provided a review of computer-based testing developments at ETS, with emphasis on the Graduate Record Examination
The history of computer-based testing (CBT) began in the early 1970s. In 1991 Sylvan started work on the CBT-GRE network.
During the past few years technology has significantly reshaped the method of assessment. Today ETS is providing a rich context for assessment through computer based tests. ETS has had 40 years of experience increasing tests, conducting research, registra
tion, test administration, test scoring and test reporting. This history
of testing experience and its cooperation with Sylvan permits ETS to believe that for 1999 CBT testing will be available in 170 countries.
