Morning Workshops (8:30 am – 12:30 pm)
Workshop 1: Business Strategies for Educational Advising Centers
Chair: Gaston Lacombe
Description: Many overseas educational advisers when faced with the decrease or elimination of funding from traditional sources find that they are not adequately prepared to identify and implement new ways of doing business at their centers. This work shop aims to teach advisers how to properly investigate and apply the business strategies appropriate to their particular situations. Through a series of assessments and applications, the advisers will learn to set goals and develop a written business pla n to achieve those goals. The plan acts as the management and financial blueprint for a business venture and explains specifically how it will function and details how it will be capitalized managed and marketed. It will clarify who they are and why they are unique. Participants will learn strategies for sound financial management with ideas for a realistic budget.
Workshop 2: Feeling Lost? Look for a Lighthouse! (Using the
Internet in Educational Advising)
Chair: Ildiko Ficzko
Description: This computer-assisted workshop aims at providing assistance to find easy ways for locating information on the Internet. Presenters will focus on the use of e-mail and the World Wide Web in advising, and on their role in providing effecti ve local and distance advising services.

Workshop 3: OSEAS Fundraising - Creating an Action Plan for Your Center!
Chair: Evelyn Levinson
Description: This workshop is geared to advisers with limited fundraising experiences and resources. It will offer examples and various resources to help participants acquire knowledge, skills, and confidence in relation to fundraising. Presen ters hope to empower advisers to develop creative and ethically-entrepreneuring action plans, and become successful fundraisers and advocates for their centers.
Workshop 4: Applying to U.S. Graduate Schools
Chair: Diana Lopez
Description: A U.S. admissions officer will present an overview of the process for application and admission to U.S. graduate schools. Advisers from three different areas of Europe will provide suggestions and examples of resources, documents, etc. us ed for matching applicants with institutions.
Workshop 5: Creating a Homepage
Chair: Duncan Cummins
The aim of this session is to give an introduction into deciding on the content of, designing, creating and maintaining an attractive and informative Website/Homepage. We shall take a look at practical examples of Web site structures and professional Web site design software such as Macromedia’s Dreamweaver.
