Recently, the American Colleges Overseas tour visited Central/Eastern European schools and advising centers. We were happy to hear that they would be making a stop in Budapest. The tour members included Webster University, which has multiple locations in Europe and one in Asia; Richmond, the American International University in London; Franklin College, Lugano; Huron University, London; The American University in Bulgaria; Parsons School of Design, Paris, and Vesalius College in Brussels. Their first stop in our city was at the American International School in Budapest, where counselor Chuck Vitello organized a college fair for students from the various international schools in the city. The Fulbright Advising Center in Budapest was invited to have a table as well. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to not only learn about American university programs in Europe, but also to provide the audience with more information about the services the Fulbright office can offer to those interested in American higher education. We passed out test bulletins, international student handbooks, lists of useful websites, study in the USA publications, and various booklets about essay writing for admission and scholarships. We brought a few boxes of materials and left empty handed! There was a great turnout for the fair, and the students and parents had many good questions. Before the fair there were a few presentations from the representatives about the admission process and American higher education in general. We also had the opportunity to talk about our center's services. I felt especially at home, as prior to joining the Fulbright Budapest advising center this past January, I worked for 4 years coordinating international admission for a college in Los Angeles. In fact, I had traveled with some of the ACO representatives before, and it was great to meet up with my former "road buddies" again! It was a pleasure visiting with some of our international and Budapest colleagues, and we hope to continue to work together in the future!
