Regional Educational Advising Coordinators (REAC) Guidelines


GOAL: To develop and strengthen the network of European educational advising centers

OBJECTIVES:

Serve as the chief resource to educational advising centers on a broad range of issues effecting advising and international educational exchanges

Maintain contact and/or serve as a liaison with U.S. colleges and universities, NAFSA, ETS, AACRAO, the College Board and other U.S.-based organizations involved in educational exchange to facilitate interaction between these organizations and advisers in a region

Develop and conduct professional development/training activities for advisers including in-country and regional workshops, seminars, one-on-one consultations and internship training programs (ITPs), site visits, needs assessments and consultations

Develop innovative ways to conduct training and provide professional enrichment for educational advisers at all levels of experience and expertise

Keep the Educational Information and Resources Branch (ECA/A/S/A) and PAO or other U.S. Embassy officials abreast of advising and educational trends in the regions

Provide feedback from site visits, consultations, training activities, etc. on advising needs and concerns in region

Identify/develop and disseminate materials and information to advisers in the region, i.e. newsletters, information packets, related to advising, study in the U.S. and other educational topics
Assist individual advising centers to develop center-specific materials, technology, etc.

Encourage communication and networking among advising centers within the region

Maintain contact with other REACs and share among each other information and materials developed in respective regions

Assist ECA/A/S/A to develop and implement new advising initiatives and act as a coordinator of all region and/or worldwide activities

Coordinate worldwide surveys, distribution of materials, and database development

Consult with ECA/A/S/A about composition of annual advising Reference Collections

Identify candidates for U.S.-based and other ECA or NAFSA-sponsored training activities for advisers

Facilitate special initiatives and projects administered by ECA or other grantee organization
Facilitate regional responses to worldwide initiatives, special projects

Assist with college fairs and other promotional activities
