CANFIELD : Sam Adams's revolution (fülszöveg)

Why Samuel Adams's Revolution? Because without him there would have been no Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. For it was Sam Adams who, for the eleven years before actual independence, had led the rebellion against despotic British rule. His aim was independence, and this placed him in opposition to most of the colonial leaders during the years preceding the Revolution. His achievement in finally winning over all the colonies to his viewpoint was extraordinary. Adams was a towering figure, an incorruptible, law-abiding radical who fanned the flames of revolution as did Lenin in a different manner in 1917.

This lively narrative re-creates the exciting events of that period before the Battle of Lexington, when Samuel Adams was a dominant force in unifying colonial sentiment. The book also includes a graphic picture of life in the colonies at the time, Adams's part in the First and Second Continental Congresses, and the role he played during the first twelve months of the Revolution. Long underestimated by American historians, Samuel Adams receives in this book his just due and the place he deserves in the heroic period which culminated in the Declaration of Independence.
