CASEY : Where and how the war was fought (fülszöveg)

Throughout the Bicentennial year Americans will be interested in learning more about the Revolutionary War. In this book Mr. Casey traces the struggle for independence through the cities and along the waterways of North America from Maine to Florida and from Quebec to St. Louis and New Orleans. Identifying the places of importance during the war in relation to modern landmarks, he describes how the geography influenced the strategy and the movements of the opposing forces.

As a former intelligence officer, Mr. Casey has given special attention to the clandestine activities of both sides and points out particularly how the Americans fought irregular, partisan, guerrilla warfare to overcome superior strength and naval mobility with meager forces and supplies which had to be moved over primitive roads, trails, and partially navigable rivers.

There was no intention to make this a definitive history of the American Revolution. Instead, it is a fascinating account of what happened during the war, and why, from the viewpoint of a practical man who wished to understand the strategy and logistics in relationship to the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing forces, the problems of the times, and the terrain on which the war was fought. Illustrated with 23 maps, it is a book that brings history to life in modern times.
