FREEMAN : Lee (fülszöveg)

When the original four-volume edition of Douglas Southall Freeman's R. E. LEE was published in 1934-35, the world was made instantly aware that this was one of the classics of American History. R. E. LEE won the Pulitzer Prize and the unqualified endorsement of discerning critics.

"Freeman's biography is great because in spirit and in blood he also has marched with Lee," commented William Allen White of Emporia. "It is a great book, made in the grand manner," declared the London Observer. Lloyd Lewis admitted that "I found my eyes pretty wet after his pictures of Gettysburg." And Stephen Vincent Benét summed it all up by saying that "there is a monument — and a fine one — to Robert E. Lee at Lexington. But this one, I think, will last as long."

The vital message of the original has been preserved in this abridgment by Richard Harwell.
