MURPHY : The boys' war (fülszöveg)

As we lay there and the shells were flying over us... I thought what a foolish boy I was to run away and get into such a mess as I was in. I would have been glad to have seen my father coming after me.

This "foolish boy" was Elisha Stockwell, a fifteen-year-old soldier in the Union Army. He, along with thousands of other underage boys on both sides, had rushed to join the army. The boys wanted to defend their homes, of course. But most went for a simpler reason — to be a part of a grand adventure. What they found instead was some of the most savage fighting ever encountered by American soldiers.

Based on their first-hand accounts, The Boys' War follows these young soldiers from the thrill of enlistment through the rigors of camp life and drilling, right into the chaos of the battlefield. The result is a vivid picture of the Civil War and the boys who fought in it.
